Teazer.. Rear rim is 2.5 x 16. I should have ordered the 2.15x16.. but I am still going to see if it will work. It should mount up a 3.00 tire (which was on there before) and then I wont have to worry about clearance.... You think it will work out in my favor or should I return it and get the 2.15 for the rear... either way.. I am going to order a 2.15 for the front after I make sure this one laces up.
Stock rims were probably 1.60 front and 1.85 rear. I run 1.85/2.15 on my TZ350 and 2.15/2.50 on the RZ350.
If your tires are OK on those fat rims, keep them. I think it should look cool. Let me think for a moment. A 3.00 tire is really a 75/75-16 or nearest equivalent is probably 80/90 if they made such a thing. 80/90 AVON 18" fits on a 1.85 rim or 1.60 to 2.15 range is acceptable. 90/90works on anything from 1.85 to 2.50, so the tires will probably be OK.

hmm.. I forgot about updating this thing.. so here is a quick picture of a roller.. just working on buttoning up the motor and a few other odds and ends.. figures it snowed today. In short.. new brakes, new bearings all around (steering, wheels).. old hubs laced up to those new rims.. trued... tires mounted (only pinched and popped one tube in the process). cleaned up the rube goldberg brake pedal system and need to mount that yet.... then its on to Electrical... which I might just be hiring our local spark moto to help with. Those are new handlebars as well (NOS from a local guy @ Morries place) My old bars are crap.. my old controls look like the got dragged through a wood chipper... so I need to source some new ones of those (that hopefully work with my new cables.. brake, throttle, clutch).... so much work.. so much more to do.
Got the valve lash set and torque settings. Decided to mount the engine and start running the new lines. Clutch, brake, throttle and speedo. Need to sort out a few odds and ends before starting in on the wire harness. I just looked back through this thread and what a long fun and educational time it's been.

Working on sorting out the wire harness. Big thanks to Spark Moto (sonreir) for finding me a brand new 6 volt R/R. These things apparently came stock with only a rectifier.... and then had the alt tweaked to feed ~ 6 volts to the battery.. negating the need for a regulator.. problem being that it would cook batteries. (especially glass mats). Matt really makes it easy to get things wired up... if this bike was not considered a scooter.. I probably would have paid him to build the whole harness.

I also picked up some new handlebar controls and some amazing grips from Cognito Moto (also on here) and the guys at DCC helped me locate new levers and perches.... How did people build motorcycles without the internet?

Getting close. Finishing off details takes as long as a basic assembly and in some cases more. When a project is around 95% complete, that means that the work is half done and there's as much still to be done....

Any updates? I've got one of my own that I've been working on. Last plates expired in 1978, so it had been a while. She was up and running and I was blasting around last weekend terrorizing the neighborhood cats. Apparently 49 year old parts don't always want to come back to life. new cables, another round of petcock stuff, and she'll be a runner again. Then on to the teardown.
been a while since I have updated this.
Suppose I should do just that. Got the clutch plates settled, all new bolts to hold the side cases on and all of the gaskets sorted. need to get the rear brake stay on and get the petcock on (going to rinse the tank again to get all the media out from when it was blasted)... and then pour oil in there and hope it doesnt come out somewhere else.
