Cafe Racer Music?

Definitely agree with Rev Horton Heat, The Cramps, TSOL...I'd throw in X, Flesh Eaters. From the newer stuff, Starlite Desperation and Girls Against Boys fits for me.

Back to work after three days off and there's much to do, but heck, what's wrong with a little diversion before really getting to it. Great Batmobile song, I only have one of their cds and that song is not on it. When I heard it, I knew the song though and dug out Desperate Rock 'n' Roll volume 3 and found it. Originally by Scotty McKay, it's probably on youtube. Found the King Drapes on youtube and they do have a specifically motorcycle song - BSA, so that is definitely one for the list. I'm going to have to go through the record collection, their just has to be more motorcycle specific songs I'm forgetting.

Forgot to mention in last post. pjed, hadn't thought about the Flesh Eaters in years, they definitely had their own sound. In regards to TSOL, yesterday I saw that Jack Grisham (lead singer) now has a book out, I suppose detailing his purportedly ultra violent youth.

Ah...sry I must get it wrong... How about The Kinks? Just searched it at youtube and I think its cachy...Must be mainstream music in sixties. Yea rockabilly rocking

Hey Paul, I'll have to check out that book by Grisham. Bet there's some very interesting stories to tell. I'll have to check out some of the youtube post on this thread as well...when I'm not at work ;)

Got a Flesh Eaters station on my Pandora...definitely diggin Miss Muerte.

Yeah, there should be some interesting tales, there's a few in We Got The Neutron Bomb, great oral history of the early LA punk scene. Or maybe it was in American Hardcore. Or maybe both.

More motorcycled themed music stuff. Pulled out the album Motorcycle Scramble by the Scramblers, which I mentioned way back in this ongoing saga. songs on the album are:
Scramble Baby, Bonneville, Black Boots, Chopped Chief, Beezer Boogie, Tiger Cub Stomp (although the jacket says Tiger Cab), Spokane Drop Out, Hairpin Heartbreak, Straight Away Baby, and High Bar Suzy.

A good strong motorcycle representation. It's not great stuff, but well themed. I have another album by the band on which they cover the Hondells - Little Honda and a bunch of hot rod stuff.

I don't have the next album (I have one cut on a hot rod comp called scrambler) but need to find it: The Kickstands - Black Boots and Bikes. Another album with all motorcycle themed songs. The Kickstands were not a real band, but one of the many studio creations of Gary Usher, look him up if you don't know his story.

I think that's all I got for now.

Just found an old cassette and it made me realize I hadn't hallucinated owning an album by the Hondells as the songs from it are on the cassette:
Little Honda, Mean Streak, A Guy Without Wheels, Wild One, Haulin' Honda, Hot Rod High, Death Valley Run, Two Wheel Show Stopper, Black Boots and Bikes, Ridin' Trails, Honda Beach Party and Rip's Bike. Now the question is where did that piece of vinyl disappear to.

Because my brain is a frightening place, at approximately 2 in the am out of the blue Gary Glitter - I'm The Leader of the Gang (I Am) pops into my head to add to the motorcycle themed song list. It is also covered by Peter and the Test Tube Babies if you wanna go punk over glam. For the smaller two wheel motorized brethren Peter and the Test Tube Babies also have Moped Lads. For the mods check out the Pop Rivets - Lambrettavespascoota (very early Billy Childish for those familiar with him). At Von Yinzer, I went back through this whole ordeal and saw your post on the first page and had missed that totally freakin' awesome Guitar Wolf Kawasaki song you had put up. Love Guitar Wolf and that song rocked. Saw them years ago and they blew me away.

RadioPaul...

When I was in Jr High in the early 90s, I had a couple older buddys that were heavy into the indie, metal, and punk scene (think Fugazi, Pixies, Faith No More, C.O.C., Jesus Lizard, Butthole Surfers, pretty much anything SUB POP released ;) ) and one in particular, Jeff, was really into Japanese punk/hardcore for a bit.

Anyhow, as I was really into 80s electronic/industrial (NIN, Ministry, Skinny Puppy, Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV, My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult, etc...) and early punk (you know who I mean), Jeff figured Id like Guitar Wolf because they were "fucked up". Hahaha...

He gave me a four track demo type tape of theirs when I was around 13-14 and I was sold.

Never had a chance to see them live though...

It is good to have older people to lead you down the path of righteous rock 'n' roll. It is indeed the church at which I worship. I went for a long period where I saw virtually no shows that I termed awesome (and this when i lived in Minneapolis) with the exception of Guitar Wolf and another band from Japan, Teengenerate. Speaking of Japanese bands, the fantastically trashy Great Mongoose also do a cover of the previously noted She's A Bad Motorcycle.

I don't know if anyone is still following this series of postings but I thought of some more motorcycled themed songs. A band called the Cyclepaths had a song called "Cyclepath '92". The Mummies, revered idols of lo-fi punk had a song called "Food, Cycles, Girls" and in addition, their second (I think) 7" record "Shitsville" had a cover of a guy (band member?) riding a motorcycle garbed in his mummy suit and with a guitar slung over his back. The song Los Marauders by the band Los Marauders has a verse about riding bikes and I discovered on a trip to Iowa City (their stomping grounds) to sell merch for some friends that lead singer Nobody was a British bike freak, although he could no longer ride due to his epilepsy. Finally Guitar Wolf strikes again with Can-Nana-Fever. The lyrics are very hard to understand, but Kawasaki is definitely in their and the video features bikes throughout and is very cool. I would post it here, but I'm too much of a technoboob to know how (although that might mean too lazy to figure it out). If someone is savvy to that stuff, please do it as I think DTT folks will like it.

Paul, Im browsing on the phone now, but if nobobdy else jumps on it, Ill posta ny vids ya need next time Im on the laptop.

Thanks for the posts VonYinzer, whether bikes are mentioned in Invader Ace or not, they're definitely in the video. I have Los Marauders 7" pictured, probably the safe sex anthem of all time. That was the only song they recorded with sax, normally they are very fast and trashy (as opposed to slow and trashy). If I remember correct, the sax was amazingly beat up and purchased for five bucks from a Goodwill or other thrift store. There is a series of three videos of Los Marauders live to get more on them, and the song Los Marauders is on the second one, but it's hard to understand the vocals to catch the bike reference (but still worth watching). Seems I recall a Descendents song where "Get on my motorbike" is in the lyrics.

War of the Superbikes by the Meatmen is all about motorcycles...not sure if it fits "cafe" in my mind LOL.

Man or Astro-Man is definitley a good fit.

Nice one pjed, another one I had forgot about. Man or Astroman is good too, they should do one of their instrumental about an outerspace motorcycle race.

Thanks for posting that link VonYinzer...I watched it twice. I put my records away cause my 2 year old daughter was messing with them (and some had covers that may be a tad inappropriate). I'll have to get that one out now.
