Carb corrosion, internal.

Afternoon folks,

The carbs on my cb550 are corroded to the point where the main jets fall out. I've tried replacing the o rings, but to no avail . Used stock diameters and a size larger.

Anyone experience anything similar or have suggestion?

Seems my solution is to find another set. Figured I'd ask first...

When they hold it runs great, but hit a bump in the road and you'll find the jet swimming in the bowl.

I'd be interested to see pics - aluminium rarely corroded away like that, as the oxidation layer is really a protective one.

Yea, I agree. But, literary came out of an open barn in upstate ny.

I'll upload a pic when I get a second. They are on the bike. I sidelined the project because of this months ago...

Sometimes it's simply time to get some new carbs -- rack of CB550 carbs aren't that rare and shouldn't be that expensive. Trying to run bigger O-rings with your jets might work, but I kind of doubt that's going to be the long-term fix.
