Carb or Electrical Problem, or Other???

Bike = 1972 CB350K4

After complete tear down and rebuild bike fired up, idled high around 3,000 w/ full choke. ;D
Adjustment to screws and any closing of choke causes bike to either idle properly around 1200 and then die, or to just die out w/o idling properly. :-\

Has allowed me to ride up and down alley once or twice but will stall out when coming to a stop often times.
After stalling out a few times, or dying from me messing with the air screw/stop screw, the bike will not start again. Electric start wants to turn the bike over, but won't. Likewise with the kick. Doesnt seem like a battery problem b/c signals still operational. >:(

Did my best to adjust ignition timing today, adjusted gaps on brand new sparks, discovered that after I rebuilt the carbs, one pilot screw was missing its O-ring, so I replaced that today. I have not tried to start the bike b/c I have close neighbors and finished this all up at like 11 tonight. Will try to start it in the morning.

Do you guys think this erratic idle, stalling and difficulty starting is due to a carb/air problem, or is the difficulty starting, etc. due to any electrical problem. Perhaps simply a new battery is in order. I can't seem to keep the bike running long enough to adjust the carbs, because when I do, it just keeps dying. ???
 
Engines need three things (and three things only) to run properly:

[*]A spark introduced at the correct time
[*]The correct quantity and mixture of fuel and air

Because item number three is a massive pain in the ass and items one and two are pretty darn easy to diagnose, there is rarely a good argument for not checking compressing and timing prior to diagnosing running problems.

A compression tester and strobed timing light are must-have items for any vintage mechanic (and a good argument can be made for them being mandatory for modern mechanics as well).

Once you've tested and verified your compression and timing, then we can help you troubleshoot any further problems. Without proof of good compression and timing, you're wasting your own and everyone else's time.
