Hi guys in new to the forum been reading it for a while im all the way from new zealand
ive got an old cb125 that hasnt run in 18 or so years trying to do a low budget caffe build but having some trouble getting it to start

the basics
new battery
good coil and rectifier
only the basic wiring (no lights ect)
clean carb
correct ignition timing
no exhaust

so basically my question is i get a good blue spark and from what i can tell the carbs getting fuel, float bowl fills up ect
i kick and kick and kick choke and no choke and all i manage to get is the occasional fire but it wont start,
where do i start? what should i try? do i need to adjust the screws on the carb ect any help would be muchly appreciated

With out an exhaust and air filter(NOT A POD) she will probably never start.
I had a straight pipe and a stack it it needed the planets to aline some times to get her going.

Why trying to start it with no pipe? that a bad idea that leads to breaking things, so its better that its not running for you
Why no choke? you do know what the choke is there for right?

Where to start?
Get the FACTORY manual and read it. It will cover all the tune up setting like point gap, ignition timing, how to check the advancer unit(they often stick), proper carb settings ( you need a real OEM filter) emgo pods are crap and then go from there.

i just want to start it to see if it will run before spending anymore money on a pipe ect shouldnt make much of a difference should it?
yes i know what the chokes for i was just saying trying with choke and without choke made no difference
has the standard airbox

Would seem so, no?
You cant just go through the hobby spending zero dollars.
Honda paid lots of people lots of money to put the pipe there, the motor needs and exhaust.
Want to check other things to have a better idea of if this project is worth it? sure thats a great idea, get the manual and start going though the tune up and maintenance sections. Then buy a proper pipe, clean the carb and run the thing.
And like I said even if you could get it started with out a pipe on it, it will only damage more things then you proved by kinda starting it.

I would assume that the pipe is not the only thing that is keeping the bike from running, but its still a bad idea not to run a pipe, and not having a pipe will make it very hard to start.
