CB100 help

I'm new here and just aquired a free CB100 along with a 67 Yamaha YS5E in trade for a pressure washer... Got to love CL. I know almost nothing about CB100's and the web is really no help. It seems to have compression and some ass clown covered it in latex house paint. Long story short, I'm broke and the bike came without a tank. Does anybody have any good idea what CB's/CL's/XL's would look good that could be had for uber cheap? I'll have to build a cafe seat for it as well, but I'm familiar with fiberglass from boat resto projects I've had. My wife has deemed it the "Ugly One" and I'd like to build it to cruise around my little area to get a six pack or ride around on. This site kicks ass.

Hey man. Welcome to DTT. The cb100 is kind of a rarity around here. Not many of the tiny bikes floating around. As far as tanks, youre going to want to look for something from the same time period, and size. The cb125, cb100, some of the smaller MX bikes maybe. Take measurements and compare. Youll find with that some ingenuity you can fit dozens of different tanks to the bike. Also... PICS!!! Lets see em.

As far as the rest of the bike. There is actually a lot you can do to the little guy to get some more "power" or performance out of it. They were entry level commuters when sold new. That said, they used the low end of components. Replace the shocks with some better/stiffer units, rebuild the front end, look for/build a performance exhaust setup, upgrade the ignition... You can make a really neat and quick little bike if you want to put the time and work into it.

I live in KC, Mo so tanks seem to be held to bikes that people want to sell whole as a parts bike... So I have to turn to ebay at this point until I can find a junk yard that has bikes in it. I'll try to get some pics up of both bikes. I've already got the rear swing arm off and the rear pegs off along with the brackets shaved. It will take a touch of filler and most of the swing arm is in primer. The brake cover is in primer now as well. A couple of cans of cheap spray paint and we are ready. The shoes look usable and the drum has only a little of pitting. I think I will get to start on the front this weekend getting off the latex paint. What a gem.

Re: CB100 help... need CL175 measurement adn tank repair

A quick update. I picked up a CL175 tank for free. The tank is rough, but seems to sit on the frame nicely. I need the measurement of the front gas tank holder where the rubber stops go. Mine are missing and the "pegs" there look like they are beat up and maybe shorter than what used to be there. If anybody can tell me how the tank is secured to the bike, that would be helpful as well. My second sad story is the tank. What seems to be the most sucessful way of getting big dents out. I"m still only in the bike for $10 and really now want to see how cheap I can make this thing. The tank at least will serve as a good mock up for the seat I have to build. I promise I will try to get pics.

That's funny, my tank holder "pegs" are shot too. I was just going to shave them flush and get some round stock steel and weld it in place. I'll see if I can get some pictures up of what I'm talking about.

NEVER doubt the power of craigslist... Since my tank was free and I really do like the way it sits, I'm really making an effort to salvage it. So I posted an ad to barter some dent pulling for a mini air ratchet that I've never used. A guy contacted me today saying that he could get the job done and the tank into primer. I'm now on the hunt for forks... I'll snap before and after pics and the "stubby pegs as well".

Forks can be had on ebay but not that cheap from thailand but they are new. I didnt like how my tank sat so i welded on some solid stock lower down. looks better now.

my seat just needs to be done to form right to it. But it has the perfect shape for when you gotta tuck in. I thought it was going to be huge too on it. it surprisingly looks almost perfect
