hello all
for those of you who read my intro you know that I bought a 71 cb175 about a week ago, for those of you who didnt read my intro, well, I bought a cb175 last week.
so here is where it is right now
I finally found the time do do the work on it. got the carbs cleaned, adjusted and synced. took it down the road a few times and am able to get about 62mph out of it at 9k in forth. after that the steering gets a bit wonky (40 year old tires )
I do need to change out the mufflers as they are from an unknown source and leak quite a bit at the header junction.
after getting back from the from the test I noticed a little smoke coming out of the left pipe. at idle it is not much, almost imperceptible, but when I give it the beans it gives a good sized puff.
I also noticed that it does seem to have a bit of oil coming out of the left intake valve adjustment porthole (with cover on)
the rt sparkplug is perfect, the left is slightly wet
spark is good, new plugs.
I have not done a compression check as I cannot figure out who borrowed my compression tester and never gave it back
I have not checked the valve adjustment yet as I dont not have the specs on the settings yet.
I was told that it did have the rings replaced about a year ago, and the compression was supposedly at 170 for both cyl at W.O.T. (unverified)
I know valves and seals are semi-common on these engines, but before I start to do a teardown I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions
I do not have the time to do a teardown on the head so I will most likely end up bringing it to someone local if it needs that (any suggestions for northwest illinois would be appreciated)
any guesses would be great
