CB175 Regulator ???

Question for the CB175 guys.
As far as i can tell, the 175 does not use a regulator.

If so, is there any advantage to retro fitting one at all ?

Also, I was thinking of getting my exhaust collets chromed.
I can't find a good photo to check if you can see these when the exhaust is bolted up.

Does anyone know if these are visible when your exhaust is bolted up.

I'm curious about the regulator too, sorry!

But the collars are completely hidden when bolted up. A quick cleaning and some high temp paint to prevent future rust issues should be good.

My CB175 had a regulator...

The rectifier is mounted low on the center of the frame, behind the engine. The Voltage regulator is inside the top part of the frame, under the tank.

I wouldn't advise running without one!
 
I SWEAR that when I stripped my bike I did not find a regulator.
I have checked the Clymer manual and the Honda manual and neither mention a regulator.

Any chance your's was retro fitted?
Or perhaps it was a later year model. Mine's a 1970 model.

Actually it was the opposite way now that I looked it up.. Rectifier inside the top of the frame, regulator was bolted to the center of the frame behind the engine.

Rectifier looked like this:

What year model is yours Magnang ?
Cause I'm pretty sure mine doesn't have one.

The rectifier is there and is the same though.

Just thought of it, what's in the $50 mod thread? Is it the regulator?

I'm in the same boat as you Cibby - no regulator that I know of.

No, it's the solid state rectifier mod. Got that bookmarked. ;D

Magnang, mine is a 1970, wonder if they introduced a regulator in 71'.

I suppose retrofitting one couldn't hurt.
I'm a fair way off electricals, but when I do, I'll let you guys know.

I think a little bit more homework is to be done.

I did the solid state mod on my '73 CB175. I talked to the owner of Oregon Cycle, he sells the solid state rectifiers and he said the output on these bikes is so low that a regulator is not even needed unless you plan on running extra components: radio, CB, GPS and such. He's been doing this almost his entire life and judging by his website and the massive amount of information that is there i beleive him.

i know its an old thread but i was wondering if running leds would effect running with or with out a rectifier. i plan on having headlight, running rear light/brake light, rear blinkers, and mikexs gauges with built in idiot lights. wiring is a bitch
 
I don't think running leds will change the output of the Altenator.
They will just draw less current.
So I would be guessing, still no reg.

Maybe an auto elec can chime in here.

Holly revival of an old thread... lol I know!

Just wanted to chime in. My 1970 CL175 did not have a regulator either. I checked and double checked the wiring harness, it just did not have any connection for it. All I saw was the selenium rectifier. Now, AC output was from 25-50v, and charging at idle about 12.6v and when revving higher at about 13.6-14v. Seems to be working ok, although sometimes the charging current drops sometimes, not sure why.
