CB250G5 Gear set up

I am doing an engine rebuild on a CB250G5, the Clymer manual tells me to set the drum shift in the neutral position but this puts the cam stopper on top of the drum end plate, as per the picture. Is this correct? the haynes manuakl mentions nothing about setting this up.

It is a 6 speed! I tried going through the gears but it seemed to get stuck on the 1st one.

Then i read somewhere, on this website i think, that you had to rotate the main shaft and the counter shaft to get it to go in to gear properly.

So as far as i can tell it was working correctly, but will find out when start her up.

Cheers all.
