Anyone know what's going on? My bike seems to idle fine and I can rev it and all, but then when I move, just walking while I'm in neutral it dies

fuel? check the tap or floats i had a issue where i would travel half a kilometre then the engine would die, found after i put clear lines on that the fuel wasn't going down the lines right.


i still have to correct this.

I don't know why I didn't think about that ::)
I have black lines and I have clear filters, so I have been looking at those. The filter going to the right carb wasn't filling up so I replaced that line. Brand new line, but the filter still isn't filling up. When I open the petcock with out the lines on fuel flows out, so that would say it is the line between petcock and filter right?
It is a new line so what else should I maybe look at?
 
The carb vent may be blocked preventing the bowl from filling up, also the float may be stuck keeping the valve shut preventing the gas from flowing.
 
So I got a chance to look at my bike today. I changed the petcock out for another one I had sitting around because it didn't seem like the old one was working too well. It looked like the petcock was only filling one has line. I'm still having trouble with the gas. The lines will fill, but after I take the bike out to ride, by the time I get down the road it feels short on gas again. When I stop and check the lines, they are a little low on fuel. They seem to be filling pretty slowly. I had a problem like this before and it just turned out that my bike didn't like being low on fuel, so I topped off the tank, but still getting the problem. Any thoughts?
 
I'm having similar issues on my cb200 think I'm going to clean the carbies, check the floats, re jet and pray. Hahahaha. Let me know mate if its anything else as it may help me out too.

If the carbys are dirty or are sticking(floats) it may have a time sucking fuel.
 
Have you checked the gas cap to make sure its venting? When you open it up after riding a bit, do you hear a sucking sound? Carb vent holes may be blocked as well.

I checked the valve it it looks to be breathing ok. Even if I open the top of the tank then open the petcock the lines still fill up really slowly.
 
Alright, now it is idleing fine everytime, just runs like crap everytime I try to actually ride the bike. Could this just be jetting a that sort of thing now? I can't imagine the carbs are dirty, because they are new Mikuni carbs I just got that have never been used except for me trying to get the bike going.
 
I think my problem is the jets. I think they are jetted wrong for my set up. Does anyone know roughly what they should be? I have pod filter on Mikunk VM30 carbs going to emgo shorty mufflers. My carbs came with 190 main jets which in pretty sure are too high. The bike seems to idle fine. It just gives up once I try to give it any power while it is in gear.
 
If you blip the throttle and the RPM's go down then up, or it almost dies, it lacks the fuel.

If you blip the throttle and it revs up but sounds like it's pulling a heavy load, it has too much the fuel.

Either will be effected by float level and idle mixture. The first would be effected also by poorly vented fuel system.

I checked the vent on the tank it it is all good, but I cleaned it out anyways just to be sure.

While the bike is idling if I pull the throttle fast it will dip down and sometime almost die. If I pull it slower then it will rev up and sound fine I will try adjusting the float level and see if that helps. Thank you for your help!

Also, this may be caused by the same problem, in fact I'm pretty sure it is, but I'm Gibbs bring it up any ways. The bike idles fine like I said, but if I put it in gear and try to actually move the bike it dies really easily. The only way to keep it from dying while I am coming off of the clutch is to keep the throttle pulled pretty far back. Once I start going then it just has the same problem I mentioned earlier about acting like it is low are fuel. Is this most likely the same low fuel problem that I'm looking at the float level and idle mixture for?
 
Dips down and almost dies? Again, could be mixture or float level. As for dying when moving, that could have something to do with the clutch.

1. Adjust cam chain tension
2. Check valve clearances
3. Be sure cam is timed correctly
4. Remove the advancer and check that it springs open and closed very freely
5. Check ignition timing
6. Adjust your clutch

After this you can start tuning the carbs and floats.
 
To the op do your self a favor, dont listen to this guy he is a grade A retard. the cb350 is one of if not the most popular bikes on this site someone knows better i promas. redliner is a artist and everybody knows there full of shit. would you ask the guy airbrushing t-shirts at the beach advice on trading stocks....no. becouse if he was good at anything else he wouldnt be painting pictures of old lady's dogs on a t shirt. artist dont understand real things, they make up shit and tell you it important for money.

Anyway.

You have a huge main jet for carbs that are a little wide mouthed for your bike. Do you own or have access to a compression tester? If so, what are your readings? Have you done a leakdown test?

Look to the Hondatwins.net forum for some reference numbers for jetting - and look for posts by Outobie, he's the resident guru there. I think you're going to want to back down to closer to a 145 main.
 
Also - have you synchronized the cars or did you throw 'em on out of the box and run it?

jup, you have to sync all your cars and the neighbours' too.
 
could be a connection loose? will make contact when untouched, when you touch it it gets no contact? very weird problem... **thinking hard**
