Just finished with a top rebuild on my 68 CL350. Everything is back together and my compression is now 190, which is great. The problem is, I am now paranoid that I left out one of the knock pins when reassembling. I have one left over, but I also have a spare parts engine I was pulling from. What is the worst case scenario if one got left out. Should I tear everything back down just to be sure?
Thanks,
Andrew

or is there one in the gearshafts? Those need to be there to stop the shafts from moving under load from shifting gears.

Crank pins stop the bearings from moving.

What I'd do is to look at the spare motor and if you have a complete set, your probably OK and if you have one surplus, it's probably a problem. Are we talking hollow dowel pin for a side cover or solid pin for a bottom end bearing?

Talking about one of number 9 in this diagram. This is the only one in question. I checked the rest.

Good news is that it's not load bearing and the bottom end can stay together (maybe it was never apart). Those locate the barrels to make sure the bores stay perfectly aligned. Oil goes up the rear outer studs, so you are probably safe with one missing.

The studs hold the barrels more or less in the right place, so it's not going anywhere. It's possible that the barrels might move slightly in use and if so they would develop an oil weep. You should be OK.

Thanks guys. That makes me feel better. I put several hours into checking a rechecking, and used this diagram the whole way. My gut tells me its there, but my OCD tells me I left it out.
