Cb350 shift linkage

I recently purchased my first bike, a 72 cb350. Somewhere along the line the shift linkage has been changed and a shift lever has been mounted directly to the shift rod (correct terminology?). It seems to shift fine. So my question is, do I need to change this back to stock configuration or will it be fine as is? Is there any reason this could cause damage?

Additionally, should I create a thread in the projects section to document my progress and ask questions like this or is it restricted to full blown rebuilds/projects?

It shouldn't be a problem. As long as it's shifting smooth and you aren't having issues I wouldn't worry about it.

That looks like a normal shift lever to me.
You might wana start a build thread. Its not for insane projects, just a good place to keepmthings organized instead of having 10000000 different threads for every question you might have.

Yes that is a "NORMAL" shift lever. but it is not an original CB350 from 1972 shift lever. If you look above and slightly behind the foot peg you can see a post which is a pivot post for the real lever. it then is connected to the shift spindle by rod and lever system similar to what you might find on a set of forward controls.

They are hard to find and NLA from the dealers i have contacted. There is no ill effect of using the lever you have on it, its just not original. i will try to find a few pics to show you the real deal.

My 1972 CB 350 i rebuilt won The Best Asian Bike at the Canadian Vintage Motorcycle show but i sold it in January or i would take a close up pic for you.

Did you happen to sell it to a girl from Toronto?

No but i know who you are talking about. Hers is red. I sold her some parts this winter. you know her?

No, an acquaintance showed me a pic of a gold 350 a friend of his bought from out of town. Don't know her name or any details but the bike looked like yours.

My friend's name is Matt, he rides a Harley. His friend is a girl who recently bought a 350. Seems a lot of girls like this bike. I'm counting on it because I'll have 2 up for sale this spring.

Not sure yet, will decide for sure when finished. One of them will be a good running 73, mostly stock, fair cosmetics, maybe around $1700. Pretty much all the 350s in Toronto have been bought up and don't exchange hands often.

Thanks for the responses. Yeah I was aware it was non original, just curious if it might cause some harm. If not, I'm not super concerned with it.

Dr J

i sold mine for 4K in Jan. its all about condition. thats why I would like this guy to get the right linkage
