cb350 twin: finding tdc

I've been following the directions in my clymer manual, but finding tdc on the left cylinder is proving to be more difficult than I think it should be.

Each time I get close to where the manual states tdc should be (lining up the LT and the notch), the motor wants to keep rotating past. I thought it might be the compression of the motor, but this happens even without the plugs in. I am turning the crank with a wrench, and I can hold it in the postion that the manual talks about as tdc, but the motor really wants to keep turning, and I can't do any of the maintenance adjustments while holding onto the wrench. Anyone experience this, and or have suggestions as a work-around? Thanks.

Once, I think it was explained to me as the valve springs wanting to kick the engine around. Man up and hold that puppy there! Valve adjustment? Just grow another arm! Rookie!

But seriously. I am 99.9% sure it's normal. My engine does it, and I beat the living hell out of it. Only time I ever really need it to chill there is when I'm doing the points, and its pretty easy.

When I had my 350, I would line it up tdc and rig up a bungy cord to hold it in place while you check the valves.
