CB350 Valve adjustment troubles

I'm currently working my way through a beaten up old CB350 and have finally made it to the valves. I took the cover off of the coil and it seems that I have some aftermarket stator that is falling apart on me. Beyond that, I can't seem to find the alignment mark to find TDC! Is there a need to fix this stator? And how can I find TDC without that mark?

Here is a picture of my stock rotor and timing marks. Maybe you could use those for reference.

Interesting, you probably will need to find TDC using your #1 cylinder piston to create a new index mark. I know a lot of two stroke guys cut up a plug and stick a dial indicator in it to measure when your piston is exactly at TDC
