ive just recently finished a cb350 cafe project. and i was riding it today and the bike does n0t go over 10 in first but if i shift to second and speed up to 20 then shift back to first it pulls hard 3rd gear also begins slowing down. its jetted correctly and carbs are synced by ear it has open pipe. any help appreciated

It could be the vent hole in the gas cap is pluged, or a leak/split in the rubber that the carbs mount to.

Didn't see this.....

What does it do when it gets to "top" speed? If the engine is revving but not putting the power to the wheel, then it's the clutch. Usually the cable needs adjusted but could be the plates slipping too.

its the engine not revving up. i check for intake leaks there are none. still need to check the gas cap. thanks for the help.

defiantly running on two. right now I'm thinking its no back pressure because everything is fine and it ran good before the rebuild.

Check your advance on the timing. Will it tun clear up to the red line under load or does it stutter about 5K?

If your advance is sticking and not letting the timing advance with the RPM's it will do pretty much what you are talking about. Pop the cover off and make sure you can turn the point lobe with your fingers and then let go. First it should turn just a bit, second it should snap back when you let go. Now if your springs are too tight they will not let centrifugal force do its thing, so that is something else to look at. While you're in there check your timing and make sure its on.

The other thing is the jetting on your carbs. You may have the wrong jetting setup for mid range to WOT. I'm not a 350 guy so I will leave it at that.
