cb360 Modifications Suggestions/help

This is a long first post. Hoping it isn't out of etiquette with the board and I'm not dbing things up.


I have a cb360 and I was thinking about making some changes to the bike.This is my first bike and the first time I'm doing anything to it other than mechanical stuff. I wanted to keep it as simple and easy as possible. Any suggestions, feedback or even useful links would be greatly appreciated.


1) New seat. The seat uses the same pan as the factory cb360 and is installed using the existing latches. See picture.

2) The cb360 has a removable hoop. I was going to remove the hoop, shorten it and weld it back on so that the hoop does not jut out past the back of the seat but sits under it. I was going to cut the rear fender to this same length or have it go out just slighly past the hoop. The fender will still exist, but just the part under the seat.

3) I was going to take the front fender off and shorten it on both sides and put it back on. Similar to was this guy did in the picture. (found it on this site) The break line goes through an upper and lower loop, I would just be left with the upper one after the fender is chopped.
Does this cause any issues?

I think I have all of the above mostly figured out. The following is where I'm a bit lost.


4) When I chop the fender and the hoop I was going to change the tailight. I wanted something smaller
and cleaner. I have found a few possible ones on ebay and dimecity, but I'm not sure how they install, how hard it is to install them or What they attach to at the back. I'm guessing it would have to bolt into the rear hoop? What tailight have you used? Why did you choose that particular one? How did you bolt it on? What are the best options?

4) I wanted to change the turn signals or use the same ones but shorten the stem. The present ones are bolted onto tabs that are welded onto the part of the hoop that I plan to remove. Would you cut the tabs and reweld them on the part of the hoop that is still there and just shorten the stems? Or just buy some new ones? What would be easier?

I thought some of these might look alright. Would be fine with a cat-eye one or a lucas one..just as long as it looks good. Is there a particular combo of turn lights and tail lights that a person should generally go with?

welcome to the forum...newb.
sorry noone has replied to your post so i will take a stab as i am off work and drinking. :

this is my cb360. surprisingly it required no welding, but a lot of dremel-ing.

regarding your hoop...
i cut those blinker brackets off the hoop, shortened it, got it flush with my seat, then cut triangle notches vertically into the rear hoop for a bolt to run through.
in your pic, you see the bolt running through the frame and hoop behind your red arrow? just replicate that about 3-4 inches further back on the hoop....or you can of course weld. i am not worried with my method, the hoop is secured and doesnt wiggle around.

and regarding taillights, i went with a combo LED unit, easily found on ebay for $32. it has running, brake, left and right signals.
my license plate bracket is secured through the rear hoop via bolts, which took some patience to drill. also a welding option.

i agree that the stock taillight and blinkers are hideous and unnecessary.
if you dont want an led taillight strip, the lucas is a good looking option.

your rear fender could be mounted to your seat pan (mine is relatively thin sheet metal) and when i did have a fender it worked fine.
it was mounted to the seat pan using the already existing holes intended for the taillight, i just shortened the front of the fender instead.

and regarding the front fender, i would recommend keeping the front at least as long as where the brake line is, so that your line doesnt bend into your tire and is instead protected by the fender.
as you can see i didnt do this, and thankfully the stainless braided lines are plenty stiff to prevent the line from coming into contact with the rubber.
