cb360 starter gear

quick question guys, my 74 cb360 will not turn over with the electric starter, with plugs removed it cranks fine, just not under compression. I got the side cover off (wonderful task of drilling out every screw!) and jumped the starter and it whizzes over till compression then the crank gear just slips and it makes a terrible noise. I took off the damper (or magento?) and noticed there isn't a key or anything for that gear. I am thinking that it must be friction fit to the damper? I just want to make sure. I just don't want to mess anything up, you know how it is to find parts for these things.

Thanks for your time!

p.s... if it was mine, i'd take the electric starter out of the equation, but its goin' to be the g/f's bike and she is pretty small.. lol

here is write up w pics I did on this exact thing...

thanks guys. Right after posting I found the clutch. I guess I would call it a sprag clutch like that in an automatic transmission, either way I felt like a dummy.. lol. I will have to look into the links that you have supplied.

Right now I have not had any time to work on the bike... got 15" of snow dumped on me and I kept putting off fixing the snowblower to work on the bikes. :(

Thanks again!
