Cb360 Steering Stem Balls

Hey all,

How many #8 ball bearings are supposed to go in each side of the steering stem? Also, where would be a good place to purchase new ball bearings? #8 ball bearings (as stated in the manual) don't seem to turn up many results...
 
+1 for all balls!! That's what I stuck in my 360.

I started a thread on my install under my SIG.
 
+1 I've pull all balls deep into the neck of many bikes. They all love it!.. Tapered steering bearings are the way to go. Especially when you're replacing them anyways, might as well give her upgraded parts.
 
Both my CB360 and my NH750 have All Balls Tapered rollers. that is the single, cheapest, best bang for the buck improvement you can do for the bike. They wwear longer (My cb360 has them since 1980) and you can preload them and it acts like a light damper.
 
I would use caution preloading these though. I was worried about torque settings as compared to the FSM before and contacted all balls and they said they recommend 28ft lbs +/-2. They said anything more can damage the rollers and anything less may not apply enough pressure... You may be able to have the torque out of the range they recommend but that's an important function that would be very dangerous if failure occurs... Proceed at your own risk knowing this information. You can also call all balls when they are open to get more info from them.
 
28 ft lbs is preloaded. Balls are not loaded at all. The nature of a tapered roller is to slightly preload them. Same as on the wheel bearings of cars and trucks with tapered rollers.

Sorry. Misunderstood you. I thought you meant adjustable dampening by changing the torque amount. Error on my behalf.
 
I was unclear. Thanks for making your point. Gave me the chance to clarify. Others might of misunderstood. Too.

Another vote for All Balls...

I pulled the forks off my bike and when I was rotating the trees the roughness was down right scary!

My parts fiche shows there are 37 total #8 balls required ( Honda part# 96211-08000 )
So that would be 18 1/2 balls in the top side and 18 1/2 balls in the bottom side ;D
 
' your welcome.... but that was a joke ;)...

now go buy some tapered rollers from All Balls and use the #8's as slingshot ammo !
