Hey the DCC Freaks, I need some help. First and formost I'm building a 400F cafe racer, want a true racer no electric start. Does anyone know if I need the battery for the bike to run, I will have lick start only and would like to eliminate the battery. Also electronic ignition? what do I need besides the part that replaces points and condensor? Thanks everyone for the feed back. Tryin to get her done before sept. 21. Grease Monkey Block Party. A Indian Larry Tribute show in Brooklyn NY.

You do need a battery to run.
You can replace it with a small capacitor if you're running few lights.
And a lick start you say? Sounds interesting ;)

what would work better small sealed battery or capacitor. Any size recommendations for capacitor size. And would this be wired to the Battery + lead coing from alternator?

8) 8) 8) 8) 8) :o Heads up on lick start,,, goin to be the latest craze

Thanks again DCCers

If your head and tail are factory built and not homemade, the resistors are already installed. If built from loose LED (homemade), then yes you'll have to solder some in.

Do NOT run a capacitor on the 400f. The charging system isn't up to snuff and it will die at idle constantly. Run a small 12v battery and you're golden. They make them as small as batteries anyway. If you do that, wire in a kill switch for the headlight so you get max cranking amps. If not it will be a turd to start.

Thanks for all the feed back, goin to go with a lithium ion battery 2x2x2in. should be easy to hide under the tail piece.

You'll want to upgrade your regulator/rectifier to a modern unit before using a LiFePo battery or you'll burn it up.

New aftermarket. They limit the volts to 14.5 V, rather than the old Honda standard of 15.0 V.
