left side had 175psi while the right only had 50psi. recommendations? tips?

Pour like a teaspoon of oil into the right cylinder, turn the crank a few times, and test its compression again. If you get a rise in compression then you need to replace the rings in that cylinder. If not, then I believe your valves aren't seating correctly.

Have you adjusted your valves yet? If not, they should be in spec before performing a compression test. If you already have that done, then Patman has the rest.
