CB500 Four K0 Kick Starter Gear stuck!

So this may sound like a stupid question but I cant figure out what gear the kick starter gear drives on the down stroke of a kick. Its the Copper colored gear on the kick start shaft that meets the gear (the gear in question)w right against the engine case just outside of the clutch basket. Here are pictures. Its either the Starter Reduction Gear or the Clutch Starter Gear. Im trying to order it since the teeth are all shredded and the kick start gear has jammed onto the kick start shaft and wont come off, even after applying heat. If any one can tell me which one of the two it might be?

After looking at that diagram again, I was wrong. You should be looking at #5 on the countershaft, opposite of the sprocket.
 
okay that one makes mores sense after looking at it. Sucks that its more expensive to replace. I wonder if its possible to replace it without pulling the motor and splitting the case.... :-\
 
No, it isn't.
Check all the dots line up when you put it together.
It's an indirect kickstart system, goes through transmission first gear and not directly to back of clutch basket.
Drives rear wheel if you kick in gear with clutch in
#5 doesn't look like damage from kickstargear, there shouldn't be any movement between them.

Looks more like a second/fifth gear issue has damaged teeth?
If the selector rod lock plate was fitted wrong the rod can move then gear selector falls into motor, full strip for inspection would be a good idea anyway. Lockwire on circlip could mean bike was raced some time in it's past life?
New primary chain would probably be a good idea if your pulling motor completely apart, I've seen links fail and flail around causing all sorts of damage, particularly if chain doesn't completely break
 
Okay crazypj, so what you're saying is that the kickstart gear is connected to one of the second or fifth gears in the transmission? I need to know the exact part the kick start gear is connected to. I need a part number so that i can purchase a new one and replace. There are like 5 to 6 teeth missing due to the kick start having a binding issue with the previous owner. The bike was never used for racing. I lock wired it as a safety to preventing the Eclip from popping off during a ride to avoid those spring loaded parts from flying around in there and screwing up any other gears. Basically the kick starter snagged on that gear during a ride due to the teeth already missing on the other gear. The bikes rear wheel locked up on me. The kick start lever shot down past my foot and lodged its self between the exhaust and rear break lever. It rolls when in neutral and wont go anywhere when in gear due to the kick start gear being stuck in place. The kick start gear rolled into the kickstart shaft and now it wont slide off easily upon removal. Its fused and stuck to the shaft. My main question is, which gear is it that it meets. The one with the damaged teeth. Need part number to order new one and replace.
 
I am going to go out on a limb here, but I would suggest the kick shaft iz bent and the subsequent presure is chunking teeth of the Clutch basket ring gear.

I have been wrong before so up to you too figure out what really is causing the bind.
 
@ Tune-A-Fish, I would say you're right. Due to the gear already missing teeth, at some point the kick star gear that constantly rotates with the clutch basket gear ended up not lining up at s high rpm causing the teeth to clash together and skip which naturally most likely caused the shaft to bend. As a direct result, the gear is pretty much stuck to the shaft. But again all I care about is identifying the exact gear in which the kick start gear meets. It seems to me like you've identified it as the clutch basket ring gear... Any diagrams showing that this is the exact gear I need to replace? Also, would you say that the case needs to be split and anyone pulled for this job or do you think that I can drop it through the oil pan and replace it without having to pull the engine. I'm not saying it's going to be a cake walk... But hey, it's worth asking.
 
[EDIT] you really should pull the motor, but if you can hang it off the end of a lift with an engine hoist and get it stable you could change the shaft, but those gears are toast and you need to open her up to pull the tranny.
 
Would you be able to provide me with a diagram and part number for the shredded gear in the tranny that the Kickstarter gear meets?

you are going to have to pull the motor and take it apart .what parts you need will be so much more clear then.right now there is no way to know how many replacement parts are needed. use some common sense you are putting the cart before the horse

Kickstart gear connects to first gear on output shaft (biggest gear on parts fiche, I think around 37~40t ? not pulling transmission to count them ;) ) and drives into clutch shaft gear which is made as part of shaft
With clutch engaged (lever out away from bar) the clutch basket drives the small gear at front of clutch cover (lower right side if you have cover off) then through shaft to gear damper/electric start and primary drive chain
For the teeth to be damaged, something must be 'loose' in there so a full strip is safest thing to do although from what you said about kickstart being stuck, you may well need new crankcases. The only way to find out is strip it. Motor is less than 200lbs, you can remove bottom end of case without removing cylinder and head. Just make sure you have all the top case bolts out before trying to separate cases
