CB500 ignition coil/spark problems

sooo when I'm riding down the street I'll all of a sudden go quicker almost whipping my head back, like one of my cylinders weren't firing and it just kicked in.. after I got done riding I'm working on it in the garage and they're hot as hell like they're arcing off my engine. I thought maybe my coils were bad so I tested them with my multimeter, put them down in the spark plug caps and put it on 20k and got nothing.. but when I take the caps off and test the bare wire itself I get around 15.34 or so.. so I thought it was just the caps and I just bought some brand new NGK ones just to see, now I haven't ridden it yet with the new caps since its raining outside right now.. but I'm sticking the multimeter back down in the new caps and still getting no reading? shouldn't I be getting something? but again I'll test the bare wires and I'm getting a good reading.. could there be anything else that's the reason? anything at all? anything helps! thanks!

Could be carbs aswell. coils do get hot. its normal. Hard to say from what you're telling.
Coils have a 'coil' in it. it can break and be 'broken'. temperature differences can crimp or expand the coil or housing, so that the coil connects once again.

well regarding the carbs, I have stacks and put bigger jets in them, but I did just put on 4-1 and got rod of the 4-2 could that be it??

Unlikely. But you could have done something wrong with installing the jets though. So many small parts, one get easily lost. the cilinders would be equally bad or good for that manner if you changed all fours.

im pretty sure everything is intact, but I'm running velocity stacks, 4-1 pipes, and I upped my jets from 100 to 120 I believe, but I may be running lean still?

Did you up the pilot jets and adjust the needle position too? That might be where your surge is coming from as it transitions to the mains.

no I just upped my main's to 120, and upped my needle a notch but no new pilot jets, but it was running fine it seems recently until I put my 4-1 on, now when idling ill pull the throttle back extra quick and it just dies.. I've dropped the needle to all 5 positions almost and they're all giving me the same answer. so now I def know its my carbs at least if I'm giving it gas and it's dying. but which way would I have to adjust the needle?
