Hi all,
I am a high school shop teacher.
After building shifter karts and motorcycle powered race cars in our school shop I decided that it is time for the kids to build a cafe racer.
we purchased a 73 CB500 Four for $400 and will do a build over the winter.
I will post pictures of it and our other projects as soon as we go along

Killer idea! Post pics of those snot-nosed, leaders of tomorrow gatherin around the racer as it comes together :D

lucky bastards

my school barely has enough money for history teachers, let alone a shop class.

how i wish to be in your class!

Really cool. I want to thank you for teaching these kids about mechanics. Alot of kids these days can't even change a tire, cause they haven't had anyone teach them. None of the public schools around here even have a shop class, except for the technical schools. Keep us posted maybe we can talk the admins into organizing a fund for this bike.

Thanks for the kind comments.
When I went to High School we did nothing in our shop class. I said that f I became a teacher we would do some really cool stuff.
When I came to this schol we just had a crummy old wood shop. We now have a metal lathe , two milling machines, Mig, and Tig. Also tubing benders etc. Quite a nice fab. shop
I am attaching some photos of our first major project.
It is a formula sae car that we built in our shop. It has a Yamaha raptor motor, full suspension and a blue bottle for fun. ;D

DAMN! that makes me want to go back to High School! NICE Work! Who gets to keep the bike when it's done???!!!

Sure beats the old Ford tractor they rebuilt in the shop when i was in High School!

cool,

can't wait to see what this ends up like.
awesome project, i just picked up a cb500 73 my self and am also building a cafe,
nice to see more 500 around the forum.
any way, keep us posted. i will be keeping up on this one for sure.
this is a great place for questions and info, so don't hold back ask away, there is a lot of knowledge here.
any way, great stuff.
later.

If any of these kids want to come to Canada to study (costs less than many U.S. schools for tuition all up), University of Ontario Institute of Technology has the only (I am pretty sure) Automotive Engineering course in Canada. They are building a multi-million dollar wind tunnel as we speak and it is in Oshawa, ON which is the Canadian home of General Motors and where all the new Camaros are built.

We are located in Aurora, Ontario which is just down the street from UOIT.
You have a great setup there.
We purchased the bike uncertified. We plan to have it as naked as possible.
Should I get it certified and plated before making too many modifications?
I will post photos of the bike tomorrow. :)

Wow! small world, i assumed you were in the states. My high school in Niagara Falls had awesome tech set up too, full wood working, metal, automotive and refridegeration shops.

I am teaching at UOIT for a private ESL school existing on campus. Any chance I could come up and see the progress in the new year? Maybe I can give some kind of talk on cultural sensitivity or something to make it legit with your principal! ;D

Do you have a legit title for the bike? If so, you can worry about the safety and register once its done, thats what I did with mine.

Hey bpcough, check out these high schools builds.

Wow, those are some cool projects!!
They are my kind of shop teachers.
I have attached some photos of the bike.
You can see our progress to date.
We are temporarily fitting the rear sets now and the new rear shocks.
The vehicle under the cover is our SERIOUS project. I will update you all on it soon
