CB500F Forks

So I am building my first cafe bike (1971 CB500F) and have gotten to the suspension of the bike. I want to keep the stock front suspension set up but my front fork tubes are pitted, rusted, and just look like garbage in general. The part where they ride along the oil seals seems OK but they do have some scratches. I was wondering if someone can point me in a direction to either replace them or get them fixed? Thanks for any help!

I seen a video on youtube where a guy puts the tubes on a lathe and removes the scratches with a special polish. if they are that bad I would get new ones.

my kz tubes where pitted, I wet sanded them with oil and filled the pits with finger nail polish. I probably did more harm then good by sanding but they havent ruined the new seals.

There's a company called TNK which makes replacement fork tubes. You can search for their products on RaceTech's website: http://www.racetech.com/ChooseVehicleTNK.aspx The only downside is they're ~$175/set.

These forks aren't that uncommon (although I admit I work more with 550s, and I am assuming they are the same or compatible). You could find a good set used, Ebay, craigslist, etc., for not that much $ and just plan on doing the seals.

There is no cb500F. Only K.

While technically correct for 1971, aren't the 500 Four's commonly called a CB500f?

No, they are called single overhead cam four cylinder cb500's, or CB500 four for short.

The "F" denotes their "sport" models. There IS a cb550f, a cb750f, and of course, the 350f and 400f, though no "k" model existed of either.

There is no 500F and the F does not denote "four" on the 550 and 750 that are "F" models.

o1marc, if they are commonly called CB500f, they are called that incorrectly.

That would mean you'd need to call a 550F a 550FF, which you do not.

Consider, also, that the CB500 twin was produced from 75 to 76, so stating you have a 71 to 73 cb500 leaves no doubt your cb500 is not a twin.
