CB550 with stuck engine...any tricks you can share?

You are killing me smalls. No I'm talking about the old one...I have not been home today to do the CB550. You asked about mechanics and how things were done, I was attempting to tell you how I did it before. I still need to do it to this one (after I reassemble the top end!) I'll update later.

EDIT: On a side note...aren't all cylinder's valves closed since I took the rockers off the top? Theoretically I should be able to find the two at the top and shove them back down this way! Woohoo! I hope...

when rockers are gone, all valves are closed as nothing is there to keep them open.

Perfect. I found my spark plug was for the larger thread size so I haven't been able to try my grease-injection method yet. Getting some new parts to weld up a new one this week. :)

Waiting?? You mean to tell me you don't have a big fucking hammer sitting around? Show that ***** **** **** who's boss!

Can't get to the cylinders at all Redliner. The head doesn't come off unless I chop the cam chain...which I may eventually do anyways, but for now, I have to get another zirc and make this happen with the tiny plugs that are in these old Hondas :) I couldn't get a hammer on a piston if I wanted to!

Ok...I have no idea if u have the motor free or not after that exchange lol.

You can try calcium, lime and rust remover...or CLR. Can be purchased at yer local hardware store.

Wasn't sure if any of that would hurt the lower end....I figured the other penetrating lubes would burn off...or go away with a few oil changes. CLR seems scary to dump in there :)

If its locked up completely...it needs a full rebuild anyways. So hopefully you will replace all the seals, bearings etc.

I know it freed up a tractor engine for me a few years ago...

Stick some damn firecrackers through the spark plug hole. Good or bad, something will happen and quite frankly I'm tired of you making me wait >:(

My uncle was playing with some old CA back when old jap bikes were just old jap bikes. Rather than tear it down, he checked for compression. Found a valve sticking. Put a zirc on the plug hole and pumped that sucker slow and good until it worked its way into the valve guide. Kept pumping until guess what? The valve was fully closed :) Rinsed the grease away with diesel, got oil on the moving parts and did another compression check. Whether you want to believe me or not, the bike was running after sitting for over 30 years without a tear-down!

You could rinse with grease then diesel, then grease then diesel a hundred times, but you have some ugly rust so it would become a year-long process. Since you're rebuilding (you really should split the bottom-end too) then this grease should work a treat.

Cut that damn cam chain. Don't use it again. Ever. Lose it. Keep the head on there until you try pumping grease, but don't take a chance on that chain.

Redliner, for you my friend, I have got the parts needed and will get cracking on it. My apologies for the slowness of it all...house projects as my first kid is on his/her way in less than 9 weeks now! I'll post a little how-to with pictures if you haven't seen it before.

I want to note that this is NOT my invention by any means. I haven't seen the best write ups so I thought you guys might like this if you haven't seen it before. Worked like a champ before. Crossing fingers this time! (I've got that CB550 engine and another CB500 engine to free up too! ) ;D ;D
