cb550f '76 leaking carbs

Set of spare carbs gives you 4 spare bowls to work with.... :-)

Ran out of gas sounds like the debris in the bottom of the tank was sucked into the carbs and is jamming the float valves open.

I have to agree with trash getting picked up in the fuel tubes, it'll cause your float needles to not seal and it'll just keep dumping gas into your already full bowls. Mine did the same thing over and over until I cleaned the fuel tube out completely and drained and cleaned the tank, adding a brass screen fuel filter in the fuel line might help. Paper filters are trash and ethanol gas eats them up in no time, leaving you with bits of filter element getting sucked down to your carbs.

Bert,

I know you have done a ton of cleaning and checking but here's two things that are essential. Do not rely on the fuel tank screen, go to a lawnmower / chainsaw shop and get a small inline filter. Also, despite all the cleaning you did, it is essential that the float needle seat is polished, use a Q tip and Brasso or even toothpaste. Polish til each one shines. Check the needle's rubber part to ensure it is still pliable. Normally draining out the tube is only due to a float needle not sealing tight on the seat. The other thing you might check is that the float bowl venting is clear. Hope this helps.
