I have a 78 cb750f, and have been thinking of getting an electronic ignition. Is it worth it?
Any suggestions or recomendations on brands?

An electronic iggy adds reliability and timing accuracy. The down side is that they tend to use more power.

I personally don't have any time for points so I always replace them with a DYNA or something similar. The alternative is that HONDAMAN transistor Assisted Ignition which uses the points to switch a transistor to trigger the coils. I used one of those systems for a while on a race bike and it was OK but I'd rather get rid of the points altogether.

You could always get a fully programmable modern system such as Ignitech but they are a tad more costly.
 
My points are off and I really don't feel like messing with them so I ordered a Dyna S and it should be coming in anytime soon. Heard a lot of good reviews on them.
 
DYNA have been selling them for decades and they still work. If I were converting a 750 SOHC I'd check into ACCENT in Germany. They do a really nice solid state surface mount ignition. I'm guessing it would cost more than a DYNA, but trick has a value too. :-)
 
Not usually necessary but those coils are really old and are not getting any younger. People often fit 3 ohm coils but they draw a lot of current and can overheat. Fopr teh street, always use 5 ohm coils if you get DYNA replacements.
 
You can snag a DYNA from Z1 Enterprises. Good guys, and they also have coils etc. and will tell you what you need.

Great thing to install for sure. I had them on my Honda 4's. They still use the mechanical advance, so you want to make sure that is working nice and smooth and maybe replace the 40 year old springs, but aside from that it's all solid state and they just work.
