CB750K1 with Progressive springs

Anyone have experience installing Progressive springs in a K1? The notes say to use the plastic spacers for the preload but the springs seem to be in the right location (top of the threads inside the fork tube) without the spacers.

I think that you can run them either way.
Make sure you use the right fork oil, its part of the upgrade

Book called for 10w30 so that's what I'm putting in tonight. Heading to Home Depot to find some nicer allen head drain bolt if possible before refilling the oil

I found that the forks in my K8 were a little squishy without the preload spacers. Maybe could have gotten away with adding more oil, but I added the spacers instead, after cutting them in half. Motor was pulled shortly thereafter, so I can't really say if/how much that helped.

My memory is fuzzy.
Some manuals call for motor oil, others for a dedicated fork oil.
Check out the writings of "hondaman" over at sohc4.net. Forum there has a bunch of good write ups and tech tips.
There are a few small things that you can do that make a big improvement in the way the bikes work.

Watch out going to HD for hareware.
Most of the Honda stuff has a thread that HD and others don't carry.
Some stuff can kinda sorta line up......but then strip stuff.....

Modern fork oils are far and away better than motor oil. Dedicated fork oil did not exist when your bike was built, but it is now. Use it.

I ended up going with 10w30 as the book recommend. I cut one of the pvc tubes in half and used them in the forks. One leg is super smooth and the other is rough... going to have to disassemble and see if I missed something.

I did, the fork was fully disassemble. I think I gouged the inner fork leg too much while removing the damper (the damper spun out of the holder I created while drilling out the head of the bottom bolt) and I have a feeling the fork tube guide is hitting on the gouge in the fork leg. I've been too busy with work to get the time to look into this but I'll will after the motorcycle show this weekend. I think I'm going to have to buy new fork legs... and if I do I'll look for a later K version so I can get a little better performance and get new tubes while I'm at it.

it is possible the spring is not sitting correctly on top of the damper piston
before you tear it down again all the way pull out the spring, stoke the fork and see if it quietes down

I doubt that is the issues because I felt the spring go into place. I will remove the spring and test to see it's smooth or not.
