Center Stand(keep or remove)

Been Around the Block
I have been trying to figure out whether to keep the centerstand on my 1976 KZ400. I really am not a huge fan of how they look, but there good when working on the bike or changing the oil, what do you guys say/ what have you done with your center stands?

The PO removed it off of my bike. I miss it. If you aren't actually racing the bike, I would keep it. Not having one also makes it hard to adjust the chain tension and lube the chain. If you have a pit stand, you can get away without it.

I may end up buying one. Or maybe a pit stand.

i removed mine makes the bike much cleaner but if you are keeping the passenger pegs/mounts you might as well keep it you can remove the center stand and keep the mounts on so you can put it back on agn if u needed it but i use a motocross jack up stand never need a center stand but would be helpfull when parked up i say remove everything ;D

ever heard of punctuation?

Yea I did remove the passenger pegs and the little two bar bracket that they mounted to, so I think it would probably look kind of weird with a center stand. But I guess I could keep the center stand in my garage and that way when I need to lube the chain, or work on the bike I could easily attach the center stand and use it.

I have mine sitting in the garage. When I need to do some work I just pop it back on, takes less than a minute.

ditch it, get a pitbull.

My Ducati never had one, and I never wanted one for it. I took the side stand off my 360 for just the ctr and hate myself for it (I planned on remounting the side stand but just never did)

Well you guys have pretty much convinced me. I think I am going to just keep it around the garage and when I need it I can simply attach it to the bike... perfect!

How do you get it on the pit stand by yourself?

Aesthetically, I would remove it. As someone else mentioned, it looks cleaner without it. That's personal preference though. Its funny you mentioned it because I spent last night removing the center stand and numerous welded mounts and brackets that I will no longer use. Its just part of cleaning things up a little.

The Ducati? I usually put it on its' side stand, lift the low side up with the pitbull stand and let the high side fall onto the other peg (steadied with pressure on the seat with the other hand)... that sounds complicated and sketchy, but it's not. It would be even easier if it had spindles, it tends to slide around on the rubber cushions.

For Loudbike which doesn't have a side stand I have to lean it on something before lifting it with the stand, or hold it upright with my left hand until the stand takes most of the weight.

Neither way is difficult, the most likely one to drop the bike is the holding it up without the sidestand one but I've done it plenty of times without incident.
