CG125 deglazed front brake shoes and drum, still poor performance.

I have a CG125, I deglazed front brake shoes and drum, still poor performance. I'm no expert but the rest of the parts seem in good condition, my friend reccomended I replace the shoes. Ideally I would like to replace the front end with a disk brake, but can't afford it. If I buy EBC shoes instead of generic, will they offer better performance, or am I just paying more for a brand name?

i am assuming it is a single leading shoe ?
personally i feel oem organic shoes grip better
is your lever spongy or does it come in hard ?
if it is spongy then the cable housing is worn out,you need a new good quality cable
also clean and lube with hi temp grease the brake hub cam shaft as it goes through the brake plate
also use a little lube on your control lever pivot

"i am assuming it is a single leading shoe ?"

I think so, yes.

"personally i feel oem organic shoes grip better"

You mean the Honda branded part?

"is your lever spongy or does it come in hard ?"

Define spongy. When I pull the lever it moves a bit then stops. If I squeeze with what I consider to be excessive force it moves further, but I don't know which part is bending/stretching. Everything is lubed and moves smoothly.

yes honda shoes
spongy means spongy :) like it keeps moving even when the brakes are applied
if the shoes are old that would be the first thing but it is a small brake, tiny even :'( i would not expect miricales

No, I wouldn't call them spongy. I would say the cable and lever are weaker than my fear grip upon spotting a van turning without indicating.

I don't expect miracles, I just want the brakes to work as well as they can.
