chain splitter

It is time to install the chain on out father and son CB450K project. I have a 530 chain which was given to me, but it is way too long. I have never split a chain before. What do I need to get to do the job? The chain I have is brand new and of a traditional master link design.

all you need is a grinder bench grinder or hand held whatever but you just grind of the upset/staked part of the head of the 2 pins in a link and go a bit deeper into the link plate .010" or so and use a 1/8" or so punch to knock it apart
just make sure you are grinding the heads off of a connector link which is a link with outer plates like a master link has

Yup. I just use an angle grinder and it works great.

Head is ground off, but the rivet is stuck fast. Punching, but it will not budge.
