Chicago checking in.

What's up guys? Just picked up an all original 78 CB750F. I have always had a creative mind, and knew that all I really wanted was a "project" and that is what it is. I won't sugar coat it. The bike mechanically is realtively sound, but has definitely seen better days. When I set out to find a bike I wanted something within the parameters of: It runs, it has a title, and it is worth the coin, since it will only be a starting point.

Within 2 days I began tearing her down. After odd hours here and there this is where she sits currently:

where you at in chicago?

Northwest Burbs, des plaines, niles, park ridge, area . I made some more progress last night. The rear shocks, oil tank/lines, calipers/lines, are removed. I am waiting on an odd sized wrench to remove the center bolt for the triple tree. I also need to find another sucker.... ech hem.... person, to help me remove the motor. It is ridiculously heavy, and am not sure the best plan of action to remove it. .

As soon as I get the bike back together the way that I want it, we will have to go for a cruise. Of course that won't be until next riding season.

Trying to get the 200# motor out of this frame is a pain. I have gone at it twice already.

I've found the easiest way is to strip the frame down as much as you can, take the carbs & oil filter off, then lay the bike on it's side & unbolt the motor & lift the frame off leaving the motor on the ground. Either take the motor apart on the floor or find someone to help lift it up on the bench.

+1 ON THAT TO GET THE MOTOR OUT... AS FAR AS THE RIDE HEIGHT YOU WILL NEED TO CUT the middle frame support (if i am not mistaken) and relocate it closer to the front of the bike, if not when yo hit a bump it will pop up the tire and hit that causeing the rear tire to stop turning for a split second, not cool, you can drop the @$$ of the bike but not as much as you have in the pic, unless you use struts... i am guessing you are planning on either cutting a coil out of your shocks or relocating the mount location... if you do this you are going to have to move the top frame brace and relocate it

I tried that already, however trying to pivot the motor from the back motor mounts is the p.i.t.a. that I am running in to. Literally everything is off the frame except the motor and front end. I have heard taking the header studs is another option, but havent considered that yet. I am going to get back to sweating, swearing, and drinking alcohol while trying to get the motor out again.....this weekend. Tonight is dedicated to watching Da Bears.

Yea I understand what you are saying fully. That top frame brace is getting chopped out before I repaint the frame. Also I am going with a 10 or 11" shock, and if that doesn't suit me I may just: a) make my own hard tail supports utilizing the factory shock mounts b) use lowering blocks in combination with the "short shocks".

Dude , I see where you're going with that 750F because I kinda going that way with my 76 cb750K . And I'm digging it . ;)
