From India ...
Cheap labour plus strong English Empire influences - cheap chromed English tanks.

I think you might have luck getting a tank chromed here for less money than this when you factor in shipping, taxes and the wait for that rowboat to get here.

Now if these were polished alloy, and proper Norton style tanks, then we'd be in business. Anyone want to start an alloy tank business in some remote corner of the world? Kids have awfully small hands - they can reach inside to hammer out dings :) Within a few months we'd likely be stars on Oprah or something.

I've been doing some research.

a 4'X8' 1/4" 6060 easton aluminum sheet ... the kind you would use to shape 2-3 tanks is $500 ... and that's just the raw materials.

I'm double thinking the "Build it yourself" cafe tank.

I think the only way you could do your own without some serious metal working equipment (english wheels etc.) and decades of experience would be to do a box-style tank of welded plates. Even then, you'd need a good welder and welding aluminum ain't easy.

Then you need the fittings for the fuel cap and petcock(s).

Bottom line is a nice tank is worth easily the $600-$700 one might cost vs. making your own if you don't already do it.
