CL175 - first build

Re: CL175 - first time noob!

ah that is good to know. i will be using 3 ohm then!

it almost lined up without the wheel on but when i put the wheel on, it didn't match up right and the angle was a little weird so it didn't sit right. i probably could work something out. i'll post some pictures to get your guys' thoughts.

got my matching mt66 tire today. 120/90.. looks cool. have to put a tube in it though and didn't think about that.. so i gotta get the spoke liner things and tube tomorrow. hopefully it fits!!

Re: CL175 - first time noob!

3 ohm coils draw more power from the battery and get hotter on the street than 5 ohm coils. Get 5 ohm for the street. We use 5 ohm on our race bikes too.

Re: CL175 - first time noob!

I saved my original coil so for now.. I will use that. Save some cash.

I put the rear tire on for a quick mock up. its a lot bigger than i expected but i actually really like it.
i need to adjust the rear shocks cause it looks like there isn't a whole lot of clearance.

it slid up the swing arm in that picture but the is a good amount of clearance all the way around. I just
hope I don't have problems with the brake or chain.... i guess i'll know when i get there. ha

going to repaint everything gloss black instead of flat. it was looking too ratty.

Re: CL175 - first time noob!

Nice mock up there. May be worth thinking of +1" shocks so you don't get a rubber burn on yer sphincter ;)
Don't make it look too pristine though with the gloss.

Re: CL175 - first time noob!

got a lot of work done this week..
here are some pictures.

the disc looks really close to the fork.. its still has a good amount of clearance and doesn't
sway or anything when the wheel spins. it just looks close. looks closer in the picture than
in real life. does that look right? its tightened all the way and even and all.

That looks too close, it should have room for the disk shield.

CL175 first build

shoot. I don't know what to do.. I set it up just like the photo here and.. its kind of obvious what to do.

I dunno why it is so close. Its right against the hub too so there is no space i can take out or move around.

Are you using the stock triples, or are you using the ones from the cb200?

Re: CL175 - first time noob!

I'm using the stock ones.. I guess that might be why. But even then, it is spaced evenly and fits in there right. If it was set any wider, everything would be loose.

I bought the front end from a person on this forum that used it on a 175 with the same setup. So it has to work somehow.. I just don't want it to be dangerous!

Measure center to center between fork tubes on both the Stock and CB200 triples and see if the CBs are wider.

Re: CL175 - first time noob!

I remember it was pretty close when I had them setup too.

I "think" I have an entire cb200 front end around somewhere. If I do, I'll check it out and post pics.

Re: CL175 - first time noob!

ah okay. the cl175 forks and cb200 forks measure the same from center. it should be just fine this way.
If the cb200 triple was wider or anything, it wouldn't bolt up right, you know? Cause right now everything fits in just right. Any wider and it wouldn't work. That is what confuses me.

Big Rich if it worked for you, then thats good with me. I don't think that it will hurt anything. It wont rub or anything. Hopefully I can get the caliper lined up right so that it rolls through alright.

Re: CL175 - first time noob!

your tire is going to hit that rear hoop ever bump you encounter...

looks awesome otherwise!

Re: CL175 - first time noob!

yeah.. I was afraid of that. I might have to bend it up somehow. The shocks are at their longest point too.

Its coming along. Can't work on it for another two weeks cause I'll be in Dallas for work. Sucks.

Re: CL175 - first time noob!

I don't know anything about welding. Can you heat and bend that U bar to an angle or will that mess up the welds a lot?

Re: CL175 - first time noob!

It is possible.......but you will have to get it red hot to get it to bend easily. May be easier to cut it out and weld in a new one.

Re: CL175 - first time noob!

Been a while, but lots of new work. I forgot to take pictures of everything but.. this is where I am at right now. setting in the wiring. going to make a battery box this weekend. i decided i am going to fiberglass over that big lip part in the tank to make it flat so that I can have a flat seat without a big lip in the front. hopefully starting that this weekend.

The engine is totally redone. Carbs rebuilt but waiting to put them on until I finish wiring
stuff. Front brake issues are solved. I just had to clean out that caliper a bit. It was sticking.
When I get the throttle tube thing for the grip hopefully I'll be able to install the brake lever
and test it out. The cable is a little long though. I might have to get a new one.

Ordered black heat wrap for the exhaust. Gotta bondo and paint the tank after I finish with the fiberglass. Going to try and get started on a seat this weekend too. After thats done, then all that is left is finishing wiring!

Re: CL175 - first time noob!

Wiring is a lot harder than I thought. Should have planned ahead more.
I bought this and it says that there are no need for relays, etc. So do I take out my old winker relay and use this? If i did that, there are gray and black wires going to the relay. I guess I would just plug those into the pigtail on this LED module? I have no idea. I only sat down with it for a little while but this smart flash LED thing seems to be confusing.
