Clutch springs how tight?

rays650cafe

No quarter given, none taken.
Putting new clutch springs in my CB650 and I'm wondering how much do I need to torque them? I've googled it up and all I can find is between 6-9 ft.lbs. if I try and torque them down the springs stack up before any actual readable torque happens. this doesn't seem right.
It looks to me that the bolts need to go a specific distance instead of torqued. Am I wrong? I kinda new to wrenching on bikes. Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Clutch isn't assembled right, you need to take it apart to check steel plates are not bent.
It's best to assemble it completely off bike so you understand how the pressure is applied by springs.
Remove the bearing in center of spring retainer plate and you have room to get socket in there (does anyone believe Honda actually assemble clutch the way they show in manual?) I figured out 'correct' procedure in the 1970's :o
You have a gap at front because 'teeth are not lined up and a plate has 'slipped'

Got rid of the gap at the plate, wondering about the springs. Everybody telling me to torque to 9ft lbs. but the springs stack up, or coil bind before then. So I tightened till the plate was below the top plate, with thread locker red on the bolts.

The clutch is 'inside out' compared to normal, the pressure plate is at the back (inside the clutch basket )

That's why you need to take it apart and check not of the tangs on steel plates are bent
