I am in the middle of a cafe racer project where I swapped out the engine in my CM400A with one out of a CM450E. I heard that they use the same carburetor but when I went to install the old one on the new engine, I noticed the holes in the new engine have a slightly larger bore (didn't measure but it's about a 1mm difference) than the carbs/mounts and the carb mounts that came with the new engine don't fit the old carbs. I attached them with the mounts from the original engine but I am afraid this may cause a drop in performance. Does anyone know if my original CM400 carbs will be ok on the CM450 engine?
Also, when I tried looking this up I came across a lot of posts saying that the stock carbs also don't perform very well without the stock airbox. I plan on removing the box and using pod filters. I am looking to save some money by keeping a lot of the stock equipment. Am I just better off getting a set of aftermarket carbs?
