I suspect a bad coil on my 550. Havent had it on the road in a few months. Pulled everything off down to frame, rebuilt engine etc. Put it all back together and no spark. hot wire coming into coil, nothing out.
primary windings are testing at ~5ohms
no resistance at secondary...
back when it was on the road, started to get symptoms... sluggish riding once it it that 4k rpm mark and once everything got hot.
so yes from this i conclude i need a new set of coils.
But here is where to kicker starts. I have two other bikes. a 81 goldwing i just picked up and a 76 cb200. I think to myself, hey i just pull the coil pack off the goldwing just to see where we are. same results.

blahh. the goldwing doesnt run. hasnt in years, purchased it in boxes.
test the cb200 coil just to confirm im not going crazy.

now the cb200 doesnt run either. but its because i winterized it about a year ago. Ran great before hand.
(yes i know. i have three non running bikes and zero running)
Am i testing wrong? What are the chances that all three bikes have the same problem.
My test procedure:
Multimeter set at 20k ohms with one probe in the hot lead (going into the coil; black/white, yellow or blue wire)
and the other probe in the spark plug housing.
Any thoughts?
