Comfy Brat?

Comfy = seat padding and rider position.

So if you want to build a Brat bike that is comfy, use a thicker padding, and set the handlebars and rear sets to a position that you will be comfortable riding.

You just need good seat foam and a good bit of it.
You shouldn't have rearsets on a brat anyway, stock peg position.
Also get a nice set of higher handlebars with some good pullback and you'll be as comfortable as a stock bike.

If youre all about the look then the answer is no.

Thanks guys.
Its typically my wrists that are in pain. I have club mans. and it kills.

I actually like the higher bars on a brat anyway, so that isn't an issue.

if you want a good comfortable ride you will want some good rear and front suspension
stock shocks in the rear wont do
also 99% of brat bikes have the seat pan flat on the frame all the way over the tire ::) ???
with this idiotic setup you cannot have good compliant rear suspension because the tire will hit the seat pan ,so you need to get your good quality shocks first, make sure they are sprung CORRECTLY,for your weight, pull off the springs, bottom out the suspension and build the seat with some clearance to that
this along with a at least a couple-3 inches of high quality padding will actually get you very close to stock seat height
it is a small bike anyway the last thing you want to do for longer rides is be squatting down on a much lower than stock seat

As the others have said - comfort is related to your ergonomics. Best plan - for comfort - is to have the foot pegs under (or slightly forward) of your hip line so you are not taking all the road jarring on the butt; have a knee bend no less than about 80 degrees so you are not cramped-up for long durations; have less than about 7 degrees of forward lean so your neck is not strained; have your forearms horizontal so you have less weight on your wrists. Check out http://cycle-ergo.com/, plug in your body specifics and see how "you" fit on a number of comfortable bikes (e.g., BMW R1200GS, Suzuki DL650, etc.) if your particular bike is not listed.

Also related to comfort but not related to the pegs-seat-handlebar triangle - ensure the seat is wide enough to fully support your particular anatomy. Too narrow is bad; sloped forward is bad; too wide at the front is bad. Think about how police seats (or Russell Day-Long seats) are made. Comfort is much less about the padding than it is the seat design. See http://www.diymotorcycleseat.com/comfort.htm

Have you seen Kanticoy's R90 build? He has a fairly uncomfortable brat seat on his bike. For longer trips he made an upholstered seat pad that mounts over the brat seat.

Take it off when you went a nice flat seat to impress the ladies. Put it on when you don't want to feel like you just spent the weekend in prison.
