Hi all, I'm Randy known here as CUNNINGHAMMER. I recently purchased a bike and I'm super psyched about getting it on the road ASAP. It seems that there are a lot of helpful people on here, and plenty that will be giving me crap for riding a Plastic Maggot haha. I bought a 1980 Honda CX500 Custom off of craigslist for $300, it came fully dressed with Windjammer fairing and hard bags which I immediately tore off and threw in the garbage. With a little fuel and new battery it fired to life for the first time since 1999. Once I heard it run it was all down hill from there. I will be posting build pics, but here are a couple of pictures so you can get the idea of what I started with. My CX will definitely differ from the others out there and I can't wait to get it on the road and racing around. I'm glad to be here and looking forward to sharing ideas, knowledge, and ofcourse obsenities back and forth with you all. Any Arizona natives out there hit me up, I will be riding this thing within the next couple of months if not sooner. Thanks!

Shoulda thrown those bags and fairing on CL... Coulda made your $300 back.

Honestly, if they were in good enough shape to sell I would have, but the years of storage and being banged around had taken their toll on the bags and fairing. They weren't screwing around when they put those things on though, flat iron framing bolted to like 4-5 spots in the front, and the wiring umbilical that I uncovered was just rediculous. I'm going to strip the bike of most of it's wiring and pretty much all that will be left is the head light, tail light, and wiring for the ignition (minus the switch which was trashed and is also in the garbage). In the pictures it looks like every other CX cafe start, but like I said mine will be different. I already cut off the rear legs of the frame (where the shocks mount and stock seat rested) as I hate how the seat sat down in a delta and then raised back up in the back. I'm going to keep the straight line from the top tube all the way back, I have yet to see anyone do this to a CX. When I get done it's going to lower in the front than in the back even with me sitting on it, going for more of a Ducati Sport Classic look. I will start the build thread soon. I think this might be what you are talking about with having the seat run straight. Looks like they built a fiberglass or metal insert of some sort to make up the space, looks damn good in my opinion. I love CX's and this is one of my favorites to date:

Bobdot- Yeah, I love that CX too, that is the background on my computer for inspiration. Although he used something to fill in that area, my rear shocktowers are gone now and I will be mounting the shocks lower on the frame hoops. I will get my build thread started tonight. I got the front end mounted last night, new bearings and I am using the front end off of a 2005 Triumph Bonneville. My uncle took it off of his in order to mount a springer, I got lucky and the trees are almost identical.

Rat_cxn- Beautiful bike, I like the way that you utilized the Custom tank and the seatpan looks great! I hated the custom tank until I saw your bike haha.

Muzak- Yep, the first time I saw one of these on Craigslist I was in awe and it was priced at $250. I had never seen a Honda with an engine mounted like that. After I found some pictures of them I knew that was what I wanted. Ofcourse I'd love to have a Guzzi or old BMW, but I got what I could afford and afford to build haha.
