Anyone wearing a Davida classic helmet? I noticed on their site that they don't conform to any current helmet safety standards. Has anyone ever got pulled over or ticketed? They are wicked helmets and I'd love to pick one up, but the 200-300 price tag might not be worth it if all I am going to be doing is getting tickets!
 
I've seen some people wear them on the road. I've worn similar helmets and have never been pulled over. Chances are slim of getting ticketed, cops usually go after the cruiser beanies. Nice paint and interior but I can't stand that strip of duct tape at the base of the shell, looks really cheap. And they don't have an XL size for guys like me with big melons. For a fraction of the price you can get an authentic pudding bowl helmet from he 60s on ebay. Not worth the bucks IMO.
 
they really give you guys in canada guff for wearing certain types of helmets? does the law require specific thing?
 
Yeah it needs to be DOT and I think snell?? One or the other I think... maybe both. Soon I believe you can just wear a Turbin!

in the 60s they used cork instead of the foams we have today, as a result the shock to the skull would in most cases be "amplified" rather than concentrated and if the blow was strong enough you would get gnarly "spidering" fractures that would run the whole head rather than a single point. the authentic pudding bowls are better left on the bookshelf.


momo design has some sweet vintage styled half and 3/4 helmets. But to answer the question, last I heard davida was DOT but not SNELL.
 
I like the Momo's very coo! I think that the classic and race Davida helmets are not Dot. The rest are.
I bought one of these in flat black from a bike shop on Queen St, its dot and snell. It had that crappy looking tape around the edge, so I just took it off and it looks fine.
