DCC TrueGel 12V 4A Battery? Any good?

Hey guys,

I'm looking at batteries for my cb175 project. The bike will be running an electronic ignition, kick only, headlight, taillight, and gauge lights.

Does anyone have any experience with this battery? It's small and cheap and I can turn the thing on its side under the seat cowl.

If it works well the thing would be perfect for my application. I'd just like a testimony or two to its reliability and quality.

4Ah might cut it depending on the electronic ignition's specs, but I'd go with at least 6Ah just to be safe (especially if you do most of your riding in and around town).
 
Thanks Matt, what specs would you need me to find out about the electronic ignition to see whether or not 4 ah would be sufficient?

Ok, thanks Tim. Do you have any recommendations? I'm going mostly for size. I was thinking antigravity but I hear quality is hit or miss. Was I misled here? Not to mention the DCC ones are a third the price...

Lithium ion can be finicky. I would say most of the problems are not quality related, but related to expectations of the people who buy them. They don't work well in cold weather and they are extremely sensitive to voltage. Also, if you fully drain them, they're dead.

For the electronic ignition, you need to know how the system handles dwell. The longer the dwell time, the more power the coils will be drawing. If the dwell is too short, then you get a weak spark. Higher quality EI systems will usually use a set dwell time rather than mimicking the Kettering system (aka points) which base dwell on angles of rotation instead of time periods.
 
So dwell time in a "points" ignition system is the time is when the points are closed, correct? Or the time the coil has current running through it to the plugs? In an EI system this would be equivalent, or designated by a setting on the system?

I plan on buying the "top of the line" system from Probe like we discussed through PM.

I sent the guys at probe an email inquiring about the power supplied to the coil, whether it's designated by a timed interval or by rotational position.

Also, I believe the "medium" TruGel battery on DCC will barrrely fit under the cowl.
