Differences in CB/CL350 exhaust mounting?

So I ordered a cl350 exhaust off ebay with the intention of cutting off the muffler and using it on my cb350. Now Im a little confused because there seems to be a difference in the headers.

So in the picture you can see the cb350 header on the left and the cl350 header on the right. That collar on the cb350 header allows the flanges that can be seen in the top right of the pic push and hold the exhaust in place. Without these collars the cl350 exhaust wont mount up. So what is going on? Are there different flanges for the cl350 pipes? Did I get hosed and I have cl250 pipes or something? On ebay Ive seen several examples of CL pipes with and without the collar, are these all mislabled as 350 as well?

ok, I may or may not have answered my own question. I decided to browse through all the model years on cmsnl. It appears from the diagrams that the early bikes did not have these collars, so Im guessing that there are two different types of flanges, and I only have the later type.

this is a k4 exhaust

damnit honda! what happened to your great parts interchangeability!?

i've got one of each on my cb350, i guess it got dropped at some stage and someone swapped in a later one on one side. still fits fine, and no visual difference once fitted. the later design is superior because the thin flange on the earlier one tends to snap or rust through,

yes, there is a longer set of 'flanges' and a shorter set depending on the length of the collar. i guess you will have to find some of the longer kind, but it looks as if you can get them from any later cb/cl350

ok, but are you #2 (in the diagram) parts the same on both sides? I mean, from the research Ive done Im nearly 100% that they have to be different, but Id like to know for sure before ordering stuff.

they are different on both sides

i actually had just edited my post to cover the question properly

ok cool, service honda has them for 3$ a piece. Expensive for a little shim, but theyll be new, and not rusty pieces of crap, so thats good.

I really do wish I knew this before I paid $150 for this exhaust though. The ones with the stronger headers go for the same on ebay. Oh well, you live and you learn.
