DTT Coffee Table Book???

I've been reading a lot of stories from builders and riders, new and old. There are so many great threads like Beachcombers tales of the day or the police stories thread. I was just reading a story on Saturday about a guys morning ride that was incredibly written and really nailed what "the ton" was all about.

What I am getting at here is wanting to compile a book of stories from the Do The Ton Forum and make available to everyone. I work in industrial printing and design so I know a few things about how books are made. By a few things I mean I am passionate about books/design/printing and have spent years laying them out.

Something I am also passionate about is motorcycles. This coffee table book is something I have been thinking about since I joined the forum and I would like to see if the rest of the members are interested or if I am just being nerdy about paper and ink. The stories, especially from some of these guys who have been around for a while, are priceless and historical to the community. I would like to see them concentrated into a single volume that we could all have sitting out in the garage next to the shop manuals and oil cans.

The idea wasn't really about bikes but the stories surrounding the culture. I'm not sure I want or even mentioned anything about "bike builds" in the idea.

Thanks. I am going to wait and get a large sampling (hopefully) of feedback from everyone and then lay out a plan and process for everyone to submit or recommend stories.
 
One was made a couple years ago. I think MBS put it together. Try searching for it in here. Seemed fairly popular. I didn't get one, but then I wasn't in it. ;)
 
MBS was all about the builds and bike pics. I think this one may have some pics but it is more print of the stories etc. I like the idea.
 
I looked up the book and it did seem to be about the bike builds. I want to focus on the culture and community here, taking only one submission from each member so that the book is a genuine account of of the community as a whole. I don't really want any bike builds in the book what so ever.
 
I think it's a great idea. Lots of people on the site you can chat with, interview and write stories about or solicit their writing and work with them as an editor / publisher. Would be happy to have DTT play an official part it in and we can work with you on distribution through places like Dime City etc.

Thanks for replying Tim. My next order of business was to speak with DTT Admins to see how they felt about it. I assume you are one of those people or someone who can put me in touch with them?

My apologies...I had no idea you were the sole man behind the curtain here. Thanks for making DTT and thanks for replying to my message. If we could maybe have a conversation in a few days regarding the book I'd like to get your thoughts and input on it. Since you are DTT, I want to do right by it, collecting and portraying the members of this forum as well as the culture in the most accurate light possible.
 
Tim is DTT. You have been touched by the hand of god my good man. Haha. That said, if this goes down, I have some writing experience and would be happy to submit something if it so pleased the masses.
 
You might give the book "ace times" a look. I think the format is spot on to what you are talking about. For that matter its just a great read and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in motor culture. The idea for a dtt book sounds great to me. I know when im 60 something it would be nice to look back on the times and friends.

I always do that...I'm that guy standing next Johnny Depp asking if he has ever seen Fear and Loathing...

Someone sent me a message this morning and actually mentioned you were a good writer. I will definitely get with you once I get my foundation laid out for this.
 
No apologies needed :) I'm like the Wizard of Oz. Once you pull back the curtain you realize there's some short balding man in a small room making all these lights and buzzers work.

Kiley (Kanticoy) has a way with words as well and is completely in-tune with the spirit behind our members' projects and DO THE TON. Definitely reach out to him.

Thanks Mike. Seriously look into Troy, Kiley and many others here though. There are some really talented members who have a damn good command of the written word. Search the "Loungin..." area a bit and you'll find a mass of interesting, well written, and well thought out pieces from a variety of folks.
 
I would be glad to contribute. In fact, I love the idea of the whole project. Ive been thinking of ways to get the spirit of this place out there. I seriously wouldn't let just anybody show up in a mob at my place every October! Let me know how I can help and i'm in.
