Duluth, MN - 1976 KZ400

Seeing the other guy from Duluth encouraged me to quit lurking and start posting. I have a 1976 KZ 400 with about 8800 miles on it. It's my first bike. I bought it in June with 6200 miles on it and learned how to ride this summer. Its been a roller coaster ride with fixing this and that and learning a ton in a short period of time. I had seen some other cafe's before finding this site but when I found it i was set on building one of my own. I wasnt sure exactly what i wanted to do adn I'm still not sure.

I got a kick in the face, heart, and soul about a month ago. I went out in the morning to find my bike kicked over with a hole in the engine cover. As a result I happed upon a guy about a block away who had two basket case kz400s that i bought from him for 150 bucks. All that said I still haven't quite jumped in yet as I'm not sure if I want to try to build one killer bike or keep my original stock or who knows.

Nice to see someone local! Once i figure out how to work this damn computer i'll post some pics of my new money pit.

Nice. I am not actually sure what I am going to do this winter. I live in an apartment downtown and don't have a garage. I could use a place to store my bike or bikes and hopefully a place to work on them. Have any ideas? I tried putting an add for space wanted on craigslist and got no response. I had my bike over in east end yesterday and the sun looked great on it. looking forward to putting better pictures on when I get my new camera. I'm also considering selling everything that I have. I don't know that i want to build a bike out of a 400 so i put it on craigslist for sale and have also had no response from that....bad time of the year in Duluth to be buying/selling a bike.

Whe I rebuilt my 82 honda 185S i rented space from a storage company out in lakewood. it only cost 45 a month. it sucks in the winter because it wasnt heated but the beer kept me warm. i finished that project in my room i was renting and had to remove the rear end to get it out to ride it.

Well I didn't do a damn thing all winter.
Bought a mint 2003 Mazda 6 this spring. Flipped it.
Bought my new baby and got her solid. Now I can work on the bike as its not longer my daily driver.
My taste totally changed this winter after I saw woody's CL350 Brat-tracker.


May have to start a Dif thread in a more appropriate heading when I really get moving. Just dropped a byunch of money ont he truck so we'll see when things get rolling.


Runs solid so looking to workout form before really digging into the engine and paint.


I want to keep the rear fender as i like the way it kicks out.


I want the bike to look clean cut for the most part.
