ebay over pay scam?

I bought a pair of shocks from an eBay seller. I paid with PayPal waited over a week then when the box finally arrived it didn't have the shocks. Contacted the seller and he accidentally sent my shocks to someone else and I received that persons items. I opened a case with eBay and the seller asked if I would ship the package to the other Guy and he would do the same with my shocks. He said it would speed things and offered to pay shipping once shipped. So I shipped the box and gave the shipping total to the seller ($13.30). A few days latter my shocks showed up but it took over a week to hear back from the seller. He asked me to send an invoice and said he would pay it. Another week went past and nothing. I sent a note thru eBay and he responded that he already refuneded $14. I check my account and there was nothing. The very next day I received $13.30 thru PayPal and also and additional $14.00 refund on my credit card. So today I got a message from the seller stating that he over paid and sent me an invoice for $13.30.
Sorry that was so long but my question is what should I do next? I realize that if he is trying to scam me I'm not out much but its a matter of principal.

You got the shocks, and the refund for the cost of shipping the wrong part out PLUS a refund on your card or am I reading that wrong?

It all seems shady, but... Ya never know.

Sounds to me like a doofus. If you're going to send him the overage back, just make sure you have this all documented in writing from the seller.

Yes that's it Mike. He offered to pay shipping back to the other Guy ($13.30). Received that plus he sent an additional $14.00. The $13.30 is on account in PayPal and the additional $14.00 went back on the credit card I use for PayPal. Confusing I know

Deek this whole thing has been a pita but if he is that absent minded I almost feel sorry for him. However, something keeps telling me thoug, he is a dick wad and just trying to get out or paying me back for his mistake. Maybe I'm just paranoid

Tell him the 'check is in the mail'.

If he's selling shocks nice enough that you bought them along with other parts on eBay, I'm guessing he's not hurting for the $13.30.

That being said it does sound like an honest mistake - just slapped the wrong name/address on the wrong box. Send him his $13.30 - you'll feel better about it.

Did the $13.30 show up in your PayPal as a payment from him? You can just issue a Refund and any PayPal fees you paid will be taken care of.

The plan is to refund the money. I just didnt know if there are any scams going around where someone is invoiced, outside of ebay, for refund due to overpayment, then once that is paid, the seller contacts eBay stating that he over paid and requests payment. Double dipping so to speak. Sorry it's so confusing. I probably wouldn't be near as suspicious but initial shipping took a long time (might not have been his fault) then he shipped the wrong item. Then he said he sent a refund and hadn't. Then he pays for shipping twice. Like I said I almost feel sorry for him. Come to think of it, it's probably swivel and his mom gets things mixed up once in awhile.

I had a similiar issue when I purchased some rear lower control arms for my Jeep TJ. Back then, I had mailed out a money order and when I didn't receive my item or even a tracking number stating that the item had been shipped, I contacted the money order company to discover that the money order was received and cashed. So I contacted the seller explaining all this (he had misplaced it) and in a week I had my parts. Well, then about a month or two afterward, when my jeep was fixed and rolling again, I received an identical part. I tried to contact the guy but failed, so I just hung on to the parts.
