Engine/carb problem Suzuki GSX400F

Hi,
first post here...
I have a Suzuki GSX400F from 1984. When I bought the bike a few weeks ago, I managed to get it running. However when the chock was turned off or the throttle was opened, the engine stopped. So after cleaning the carbs I can’t get it running again. New main jets, tested the spark plugs and fresh fuel. If the drain plugs are loosened, fuel drops out. But after trying to start (with chock), the spark plugs aren’t wet. Any ideas?

First, you can try starting fluid. Be careful. It can backfire and catch stuff on fire if you're not careful.

If starting fluid doesn't work, then for check actual spark. The ignition control boxes are notorious for going bad. The bad news is, a replacement box isn't available except used on EBay. What you need to do is rule out what is NOT the problem. If it starts on starting fluid, you know the ignition functions to some degree.

You can see how much crap I had to go thru to get my GS300 running at this thread. I was going back and forth between carbs and ignition.

Put your hand over the carb inlets whilst you are cranking the motor.

They sometimes need a little help getting fuel into the cylinders after a carb clean.
