Engine top end gasket question

So I'm putting the engine back together on my cl360. I bought a brand new complete engine gasket kit. However I have a question...I don't have a gasket in my kit for the last piece of the top end. See pic below. And there wasn't a gasket in there when I pulled it off. Rather there was a gummy like substance on it? Does this piece not use a gasket? And if no do I need to replace the gummy stuff?

I'm sure someone that has rebuilt one will weigh in on this but... This looks similar to an xs 650, top cover has the rocker arms and shafts and no gasket... I used 3 bond, spread very thin... But different motor..

Threebond 1184 is the stuff to use on the "seam". Also used where the lower crank case and upper crank case meet.

A large tube is about $12 on E-bay. More then enough for multiple engines.

Thanks a ton everyone. Anyone have a recommendation on what to put on dry gasket? Do you keep yours dry? I heard some people use bearing grease?
