I have and now you have too. My pile of parts to chrome got a little out of hand but hey it made for a sweet ride.
Swagger, where abouts do you live? I'd love to find a plater that cost less. I also had my swingarm done for $250Swagger said:Ouch! That's all you got for $3k?
Maybe platers around here are just generous...I dunno.
Sure does look pretty though...
Tim, Yes everything was super polished and triple plated for show quality. I know the place that did it and they even gave me a better deal. One part I forgot to add to the pic was the swing arm. Hell its just an expensive thing to have done these days with all the EPA regulations and taxes. I even had to pay a enviro tax as part of my fee. After the ouch wears off I'm happy that it looked so good.Tim said:Fill us in on the work the chromers did - looks like they did some serious cleanup / smoothing of the parts before plating? $3K is a lot for that much chrome, but not if they spent a week prepping all the bits before plating it.

Swag, Portland isn't to far away. I'd love to price some chrome at your shop? What the name? contact number? Really, that isn't a bad price for the Seattle area. There was only two outfits in town and the other is a 1/3 more then what I paid. I used a start up company that that just died do to the economy. I worked for a huge manufacturing co. and they were sucking up to me to get the comercial business. I was even given the behind the sences tour and taken out to lunch. I know I got the best deal in town because I price the other place. (ART BRASS)Swagger said:I'm in Portland Oregon. Don't get me wrong, those pieces came out gorgeous but still that's approximately 3x as expensive as it should have been, even with the platers doing ALL the work; media blasting, preplate polishing, copper preclad with polish, post nickel polish (beore chrome wash) and then buffing after the chromium is washed over the nickel.
(I've had a few things plated...)
Now i know the EPA is getting tougher but just the same...I think they saw you coming mate...
The case is High Temp primer, silver and clear. Can't remember the brand anymore but It turned out really well. Might have been Duplicolor?Tim said:I've had some minor chrome work done, but nothing where I had them smooth out the pieces first and then triple-plate it. I'd bet most of us haven't had that experience nor paid for it.
My work was done in Toronto at Mayfair plating. No idea what they'd charge, but $250 for a swingarm is probably in the ballpark, especially if they did any work to it first like smoothing out welds or anything.
Engine looks awesome - what paint did you use? Lets see the rest!
Thanks, I wish I had the funds to go even crazier. Still need clip ons, rear sets, oil cooler, ect........$$$$Krixxer said:we had a guy around here who insisted on chroming his busa frame for one of those stretch jobs.
Guy spent 4k on " show chrome" on the frame and swing arm.
3k for all the small bits and peices??? you did OK; bike looks champ
ah yes the good old days before the enviro stuff kicked in. Hell maybe Canada doesn't have the same tough taxes for chromers. Mexico still makes for good cheap chrome. I wish I lived closer.gt550guy said:I got a frame ,swing arm, side stand, brake leaver ,brake stay, headlamp pot and ring, headlamp ears, 6 motor mounts and about 6 or 7 vairous brackets foe $200 in Oakville Ont about 10 or 11 years ago
