I've been lurking for a while and decided to join so I can search for specifics and builds. There is a wealth of knowledge and information here that I appreciate. I own an old '75 CB 400F Super Sport that has set for years :-[ and now I have time to work on it :-\ . Hoping to do the Cafe route sometime in the next year or two. Meanwhile, I'll continue to read and learn.

I'm gonna need parts help, especially with interchangability!! The front forks are rusted where the seals will be running and it hasn't run in probably 20 years. I've got to go pick it up from the barn where it was stored and get a replacement title. After that a complete strip and rebuild will be in order. My biggest worry is getting a replacement header. From what I see, - the little 4s are rare and there isn't much call for parts. I'll use what I can, replace what I can source and rely on you guys' advice for the rest!

Welcome to the site, and I already hate you for having one of the bikes I've always wanted.

With that bike, I'd strongly suggest maintaining the ability to go back to stock. It's a very desirable bike in stock trim and will be worth more. You should still be able to make a great cafe bike out of it, and the fact that it's a first year 400F helps with the cool factor.

It's not that I don't prefer cafe's, because I do. Speaking completely from a financial standpoint.

Haha, you can actually pull of some really styling mods and not destroy the value of the bike. Check out Kanticoys 400f and you'll see what I mean.
As far as the header, youre kinda screwed if you want a new old stock, or really nice used one. They show up, but is theyre nice, theyre expensive. That said, these bikes have been immensly popular in vintage road racing for decades, so nice aftermarket exhausts can be found easily. Still not exactly cheap, but readily available.
