Exhaust straighpiping question

Hey everyone!

I'm kinda new to the forums, I've gotten a lot of good information here just from reading, but I decided to join so I can ask a couple of questions and share my build(s?)

So here goes my first question. I have a 1980 Suzuki Gs750 that I've built into a cafe racer. I got the carbs rebuilt and rejetted to work with filter pods and a Mac 4-1 exhaust. What I want to do is remove the can of the two piece exhaust completely instead of just removing the baffle, which I've heard can be quite a pita.

So, if I remove the can and just leave it straight piped, do I need to rejet the carbs again, or will they still work?

Thanks!

Changes to the exhaust won't necessarily require rejetting. Exhaust has much less effect on fuel/air mixture than making changes to the intake.

If the bike was totally stock, (including airbox and jetting,) and you went from the stock exhaust to the Mac 4-into-1 exhaust, it probably would run like crap, because they are so lean stock that they barely run already.

IMO, the bike will be way too loud without a muffler. I am opposed to any bike running without muffler(s). You can modify the Mac muffler for better sound and freer flowing, however. I don't like the sound of the Mac muffler. It's kinda tinny. Here is what I did. I removed the baffle, by drilling out the rivet that holds it in.

I cut it and re-welded it to make it straight-through.
Then I drilled it full of holes and wrapped fiberglass around it.

I put a grinding stone on a bit extension to ream out the rough burrs that drilling left on the inside of the baffle.

I added a little piece of 3/8" rod at the end, so that the baffle would pass the "nightstick" test if an officer wanted to verify that I did not have a straight through pipe. Also adds a little restriction and reduce noise a little.

I wrapped the baffle with wire screen, followed by Moose Muffler Packing.

Yes they did. A couple years ago. And thought I'm certainly no fan of overly PC crap, calling a bunch of folks (who may have ZERO idea about the episode) FAGS should really stop.
